What is an ICO / IFO / ILO?
There are various methods to invest in new tokens before their general release. Normally this involves supplying some ETH on the Ethereum blockchain or BNB on Binance Smart Chain.
ICO – Initial Coin Offering – ICOs are the classic method of buying crypto in a presale at a set price.
IEO – Initial Exchange Offering – Same as ICO but the token sale is supervised by a crypto exchange.
IFO – Initial Farm Offering – Presale hosted by a decentralised exchange. Provide liquidity to a pool to enter the presale.
ILO Initial Liquidity Offering – Different name but the same concept as IFO.
Obtaining a token in an ICO / IFO / ILO before the masses is a high risk / high reward way to invest in new tokens. If a token goes on to become very popular and market cap increases, it can mean good returns. There are risks though and we talk about how you can mitigate these risks in more detail on our Token Security post here
